Today is Wesak Day, 13.05.2014. We are honouring Gautama Buddha [ 563-483 BC].
It was probably 2,500 years ago, Gautama Buddha finally found the universal truths about the mind of human beings. He became a great teacher. The great teaching is called Buddhism.
Buddhism is not a religion, it is a teaching about how to live well with our mind. You get the mind right, all else would be right. Simple.
I am wondering.
How can a teaching, formulated 2,500 years ago, can still be universal and applicable now. Why the teaching can last so long?
The teaching is great, so great that it lasted so long and can be so universal that it still be applicable now.
I was wondering.
How can Buddha teaching, originated from India, gained foothold in China from the period of Han Dynasty [206 BC-220 AD} to the stage of flourishing intensely during the Tang Dynasty [618 -907 AD]?
China has so strong a tradition in all their thinking, philosophy and beliefs and yet Buddha teaching from India can gain foothold in China.
I believe it is the same reason like my first wondering.
The teaching is great, so great that it lasted so long and can be so universal that it still be applicable now. And it gained a strong foothold in China.
